How to find your friends at a festival when the network is jammed

Tens of thousands of phones, one overloaded tower. Here's how to stay together at festivals, concerts and big events without relying on signal.

Quick answer

Agree a fixed meeting point and regroup time, then use an app that doesn't need the tower. Speeky lets your group talk, message and see each other on a map phone to phone, and on Ultra Wideband iPhones shows each friend's distance and direction.

Speeky radar finding friends nearby

Festivals are where phones go to die. Not the battery, the network. When fifty thousand people are posting the same headliner, the nearest tower gives up, and your "where are you??" never leaves your phone.

Make a plan before the gates

  • Pick a fixed meeting point that's easy to describe, like a named food stall, not "near the stage".
  • Agree on a time to regroup if you get split up, for example on the hour, every hour.
  • Screenshot the site map so you have it without data.

Use an app that doesn't need the tower

Phones can connect to each other directly. Speeky uses that to give your group push-to-talk voice, messages and live locations, with no signal needed. Set up a channel before you go in and you're covered.

Find people in the crowd

On iPhones with Ultra Wideband, Speeky's radar shows the distance and direction to your friends, which beats waving a phone torch in the air. If you're the organiser, drop a regroup pin and everyone sees where to head.

Save your battery

  • Bring a small power bank. Cold nights and full brightness drain batteries fast.
  • Turn your screen brightness down and close apps you're not using.
  • Your phone works harder searching for a weak signal. If there's none, Airplane Mode with Bluetooth on saves power while Speeky keeps working nearby.
